KOREAN METAL FRIDAY rides again. Let's get right to it, shall we? Metal sometimes takes itself far too seriously. All that growling about how awesome Satan is can get a bit tiring. It's summer so I thought I'd showcase some of the lighter side of KOREAN METAL over the next few weeks.
Monkey Head is a pretty ridiculous name for a pretty ridiculous band. Monkey Head keeps their METAL monkey tongues firmly in their METAL monkey cheeks by injecting some pop-punk irreverence into some Thrash sounds. Here's Frog Boy off their first from 1994:
I find the first 50 seconds of crappy jam band riff leading to the faux Metallica acoustic guitar intro hilarious.
The silliness in the next one starts at about the 2:00 mark. From 1995's "The Second Phase of Monkey Head" here is 그냥 느껴봐:
The expression on the lead singers face really make that one for me.
Here they are in 2009 on the TBwee with "울릉도 트위스트" (Ulleungdo Twist):
Join us next week and I'll try to dig up some more funnier metalier KOREAN METAL.
